Introduction + Design

The Soñadora Hair Tie is a very easy hair tie with minimal shaping, ideal to practice the knit stitch a basic increases and decreases, and to finally use those yarn scraps that you’ll likely have lying around.

It’s worked flat in Garter st from end to end.

This is the perfect project if you’re just learning how to knit!

The Hair Tie only requires you to know how to cast on, make the knit stitch and bind off stitches. It also requires the m1R increase and the ssk decrease, but I’ll teach you how to make those below.

Yarn leftovers, here we come.

This pattern only requires about 15 gr/0.5 oz; 76 yd/63 m of Fingering Weight yarn (really, any weight of yarn will do, but the yardage will vary), so you’ll be using all of your yarn leftovers to make this hair tie, and giving it as gifts for all your friends!

The quickest knit ever

For real. It will take you from 3 to 4 hours to complete this project from beginning to end. Pinky promise.

Gauge

32 sts and 56 rows = a square 4 in/10 cm wide and 4 in/10 cm long, in Garter stitch.

Gauge is not particularly important for this pattern, as long as you like the density of your fabric.

Finished Measurements

Finished Length: 26”/66 cm.

Notes

I am a loose knitter. If you are a  tight knitter, I advise you to try  knitting a gauge swatch with one needle size bigger than stated in  pattern.

Abbreviations

cm: centimeter

k: knit

m1R: make 1 right

RS: Right Side

st(s): stitch(es)

ssk: slip, slip, knit

WS: Wrong Side

Techniques

Make 1 Right: increase method that creates a new stitch from the strand between 2 existing stitches, which leans towards the right. To do it, insert the left-hand needle from back to front under the strand between the left-hand needle and the right-hand neddle, lifting the strand onto the needle. With the yarn in back, insert the right-hand needle from front to back into the front loop of the stitch. Knit it.

Slip, slip, knit: sl next 2 sts to the right-hand needle, one by one, kwise. Slide the left-hand needle into the front loops of the slipped sts and knit them together.
